Marc Charbonneau has been a partner of the law firm Lazarus Charbonneau for over 30 years. He specializes in banking law, transactional law and bankruptcy law. He has represented Canada’s leading financial institution since the firm’s inception as well as a diverse customer base of small entrepreneurs.
He attended the University of Montreal from 1972 to 1975. He obtained his practicing certificate in 1976 after successfully passing his bar exams in Quebec and completed a 6-month internship with, the law firm previously known as, Vermette, Ryan, Dunton and Rusko.
He was Member of the Bar Council of Montreal, his professional order, for five years and has held positions as Treasurer (2008-2009), First Counselor (2009-2010) before being elected president of the Bar in 2010-2011. During this period he also served on the General Council of the Quebec Bar and the 2009-2001 Executive Committee thereof. He served, among others, the Hospital Boards Sacred Heart of Montreal and the Fondation du Collège Marie-Victorin. He is a director CAIJ since December 2011 and has served as Secretary since June 2014.
